AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) 2025

Are you an international student with a vision for leadership and a passion for driving social change in your community? If so, the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) at American University in Washington, DC, could be the perfect opportunity for you.

This renewable opportunity lasts for up to four years of undergraduate study, provided you maintain satisfactory academic progress.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

The AU EGL scholarship takes care of all billable costs for two international students starting in 2025. However, you should be prepared to manage non-billable expenses like health insurance, books, and personal costs, roughly estimated at US$4,000 per year.

In addition to the full scholarships, AU is thrilled to offer up to eight partial scholarships worth up to US$40,000 each per year. These are awarded automatically to outstanding candidates who complete the AU EGL scholarship process—no separate application needed!

Who should Apply?

The scholarship is specifically for those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and who have not begun post-secondary studies or graduated secondary school prior to 2023.

Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership, volunteerism, and community service. Academic excellence is also crucial, with a minimum 3.8 GPA (or top 10% of your class) required. English proficiency is also a key requirement, with specific scores needed on tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, or the SAT.
