Global Korea Scholarships (GKS-U) 2024-2025 | University & Embassy Track Application Method

What is the GKS Scholarship 2024?

Sponsored by the Korean Government and NIIED, the Global Korea Scholarship (formerly KGSP) is available for undergraduate programs for the year 2024.

It’s designed to promote healthy international relationships and attract global talent to the Republic of Korea and these GKS scholarships are available for bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. students. Specifically, 220 undergraduate students and 1080 graduate students will be chosen whereas recipients will partake in a year-long Korean language course at selected universities, with exceptions for those with a TOPIK score above 5 or specific international students invited by the Korean government.

Students awarded the GKS-U scholarship receive comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Full airfare reimbursement.
  • A settlement allowance of 200,000 KRW.
  • Monthly living allowance up to 1,000,000 KRW.
  • Medical insurance of 20,000 KRW/month.
  • Full tuition coverage (up to 5,000,000/semester).
  • Language course fees up to 800,000 KRW/quarter.
  • Research grants up to 240,000 KRW/semester (for research-oriented programs).
  • Thesis printing coverage up to 800,000 KRW (one-time).
  • Completion grant of 100,000 KRW.
  • Additional award of 100,000 KRW for proficiency in the Korean language.

Eligibility for GKS-U Scholarship 2024:

You can stand eligible to apply for this Global Korean scholarship 2024-2025 class if you fulfil following criteria:

  • Both the applicant and their parents must be non-Korean citizens.
  • Applicants should be healthy and prepared for a long stay abroad.
  • Undergraduates should be below 25 years, while graduates below 40 years.
  • Prospective students must complete their current degree before arriving in Korea.
  • They should have a CGPA or percentage above 80% in their last program.
  • Previous recipients of the GKS scholarship are ineligible.

GKS Scholarship 2024 Application Process:

There are primarily two methods to secure your spot for the Global Korea Scholarships 2024-2025 and here’s a breakdown of each method:

Method 1: Direct Korean University Application for GKS

  • Candidates choose this method to send their application straight to their desired Korean university.
  • Ensure all necessary documents are sent directly to the university through mail.
  • Important: Remember, when opting for a direct university application, you are restricted to applying to only one Korean university.

Method 2: GKS scholarship application Via the Korean Embassy

  • For those choosing this pathway, start by submitting either original or certified copies of your documents to the Korean Embassy located in your home country.
  • Navigate through two rounds of the Embassy’s screening process, which subsequently advances to the final selection stage.

Highlight: Opting for the embassy route allows students the flexibility to apply to up to three different Korean universities.

  1. Apply through the Korean Embassy in your country by submitting the required documents.
  2. The embassy shortlists and nominates candidates.
  3. The scholarship committee evaluates applications, notifying embassies of the results.

The GKS 2024 application period starts in September 2023 and for Korean university track applications, the deadline is December 15, 2023 whereas for embassy track applications, it’s December 22, 2023.
