Are you an international student dreaming of studying at one of the top research universities in the world? The Université de Montréal (UdeM) is welcoming you with open arms through its exemption scholarship program, designed to lighten the financial load of international tuition fees. Starting from the fall of 2020 and continuing into 2025, this initiative underscores UdeM’s commitment to enhance its cultural diversity by attracting bright minds from across the globe.
Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship
This scholarship is aimed at international students who are not from France or French-speaking Belgium. To qualify, you need to:
- Have an offer of admission for a UdeM program starting no earlier than Fall 2020.
- Possess valid study permits for the duration of your studies.
- Maintain full-time enrollment status throughout your program, unless you have an approved reason for a leave of absence.
- Not be receiving any other form of tuition fee exemption.
- Not be enrolled in any independent or certificate programs, especially from Winter 2024 onwards.
Scholarship Benefits
The amount you can receive through this scholarship varies by your program and level of academic excellence:
- For Undergraduate Students: You could receive up to $13,340.40 per year, which helps reduce your yearly tuition fees significantly. Essentially, this means you pay much less than what international students typically do, which makes your education more affordable.
- For Graduate Students (Masters Level): Whether you are in a research or non-research program, the scholarship offers a reduction in your tuition fees. For instance, starting in Fall 2024, if you’re in a research program, you might only pay $15,149.70 per year compared to the usual higher fees. This makes your advanced studies more financially manageable.
- For PhD Students: The scholarship completely covers the extra tuition fees that international students are normally required to pay. This means you’ll pay the same tuition rates as local Québec graduate students, which is a significant financial relief.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
- Application: Start by applying for admission to your chosen program. Be mindful of the deadlines and admission requirements.
- Admission Offer: Once you’ve applied, monitor your application status through the UdeM student center where you will receive your admission notice.
- Scholarship Evaluation: Upon accepting your admission, UdeM automatically evaluates your eligibility for the scholarship, no need for a separate scholarship application.
