Attention all nature lovers, city explorers, and photography enthusiasts! The European Environment Agency (EEA) is thrilled to announce the 2024 edition of their annual photo competition, “Urban Treasures.” This is your chance to highlight the vibrant spirit of your city and share moments that spark joy and hope for a sustainable future.
Participating in the EEA’s “Urban Treasures” photo competition offers a unique opportunity to showcase your photographic skills and your vision of urban sustainability. It’s a chance to have your work featured in prestigious EEA publications and exhibitions, gain international recognition, and win attractive cash prizes.
Who is Eligible for annual photo competition
The eligibility criteria for the EEA’s “Urban Treasures” photo competition are as follows:
- Residency Requirements: Participants must be residents of the EU 27 Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and Türkiye. Additionally, residents of countries under the stabilization and association agreements (North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina) are also eligible.
- Age Requirement: All participants must be 18 years old or older at the time of entry.
- Location of Photography: The photos submitted must be taken within the countries listed above.
Prizes to Be Won
- €1,000 for the best photo in each category.
- €500 for the Public Choice Award.
- €500 Youth Prize for participants aged 18-24.
Rules and Regulations for annual photo competition
The rules and regulations for the EEA’s “Urban Treasures” photo competition include:
- Photo Manipulation: Participants are allowed basic edits like cropping and adjusting brightness. Major alterations that change the reality of the image are not permitted.
- Submissions Limit: Up to five photos per participant, each require a separate submission form.
- Photo Specifications: Photos must be in electronic format with a minimum resolution of 2000 pixels on the long side.
- Supporting Information: Each photo should have a title and an optional short description in English.
- Copyright and Rights: Entrants must own the photos’ copyrights and grant the EEA non-exclusive usage rights.
- Entry Fee: There is no fee to enter the competition.
- Acceptance of Terms: Submitting an entry constitutes acceptance of all competition rules and terms.
Application and Selection Process
Use the online form (https://www.eea.europa.eu/en/newsroom/photo-competitions/urbantreasures#prizes) to submit your entries by 1 October 2024.
A pre-selection committee will choose 20-40 finalists. An external jury will then select the winners, except for the Public Choice Award, which will be determined by public vote from 30 October to 13 November 2024 and the winners will be announced on 29 November 2024.
